Wedding Planning: 11 Little Things to Remember

While wedding planning should be one of the most exciting time in a bride-to-be’s life, I imagine it’s stressful. I was getting overwhelmed just doing research for this post.

There’s so much to organize, reserve, plan, and create when it comes to a wedding, but don’t get so caught up in the invitations, the dress, the flowers, and the cake… that you forget those extra little things that really make the day a success. Try not to forget the following 11 things:

11.) Look into wedding insurance and decide if it’s right for you. Wedding insurance is exactly what it sounds like. Inexpensive policies that will cover things like if your wedding gets postponed because of bad weather, or your officiant just doesn’t show up.

10.) Send out Save the Dates. Just because YOU have the date with hearts around it on your calendar doesn’t mean your second cousin once removed does. Get on their calendar NOW.

9.) Find out if your caterer is taking care of dishes, tables, chairs etc. If they aren’t, remember to do it yourself. The last thing you want is your $65 a plate chicken to turn into finger foods.

8.) Reserve electrical and structural odds and ends. If you’re having an outdoor event, make sure you have portable toilets. If you’re having fancy lighting, make sure all of the necessities are reserved.

7.) Order your thank you cards. This probably seems like an obvious one, but it can easily be overlooked. If you want an entire matching stationery ensemble, get thank you cards at the exact same time as your invitations, RSVP cards and whatever other stationery you’re buying. Keep them someplace safe so you can get started on them ASAP.

6.) When planning your honeymoon, think about any doctor’s appointments you may need. If you’re traveling out of the country, make sure you’re all up-to-date on your shots.

5.) Make a list of “Must Take” photographs. Photographers have their own ideas on what looks good, just like you do, but remember it’s YOUR day. If there are certain people you want to pose with that go against the norm… let your photographer know in advance.

4.) If you and your soon-to be-spouse plan on moving soon after the wedding remember to give change-of-address information to your local post office.

3.) Break your wedding shoes in. Comfort is important on your wedding day, so please walk around in your shoes a few times before the “big day.” You don’t want a bunch of blisters forming while you’re trying to Chicken Dance.

2.) Remember that honeymoon that you planned and are looking forward to? Make sure your family, friends or house-sitter has all of the necessary travel information, in case of an emergency.

1.) Have fun and say “thank you.” Your wedding day is a special time, so be sure to enjoy it. Don’t stress if the swizzle sticks aren’t the exact white you asked for, or someone makes an embarrassing toast. Enjoy it, and remember to thank everyone for helping you make the day happen.
