It’s all over the news today. It’s the eleventh day of the eleventh month of the eleventh year of the century. It’s an event that won’t be repeated for another 100 years. Apparently it’s a lucky day if you follow one of several philosophies that claim the number one is a sign of luck for starting a business or a relationship and that double ones represent opening a portal to a new era. With all those ones and double ones, today must be a lucky one for sure! That would explain the huge surge of weddings taking place today, a Friday, not your normal day of the week for getting married. Indeed your friends here at 123Print did see quite a few wedding invitations including this very day pass through our presses. But yet today is something else too.
If you made it past all of the 11-11-11 feature articles and blog posts out there; you probably had the misfortune of all of the less-than-fun news flying around today. Talk of the economy, aftermath of earthquakes halfway around the globe, world-wide protests, speculation on political hopefuls based on televised debate bumbling and respected men at storied institutions going down over actions – or lack thereof – surrounding gut-wrenching allegations of heinously-inappropriate behavior from within their ranks. Not real fun stuff. It’s no wonder we’d rather read about what makes 11-11-11 so special! But yet today is special for another reason too.
No, it’s not a once-a-century kind of celebration. There’s nothing numerological about it. But there’s nothing depressing about it either, and at least here in the United States of America, it’s something that we can look to in thanks for being free and able to enjoy “once in a lifetime” events like 11-11-11. Today is Veterans Day here in the U.S. It’s a day to put politics and views about the reasons for conflicts aside and thank the brave men and women who have not only put those very issues aside themselves, but have also unselfishly put their very lives on the line for the lives, freedoms and safety of all Americans and millions of other citizens of our Earth. Do vets ask for or need huge celebrations? No, they have a kind of pride that can only come from what they have accomplished, a pride that lives without fanfare. But shake the hand of a vet, look them in the eye and say a sincere and simple “thanks” and you’ll see what selfless dedication is!
So if you believe in what 11-11-11 stands for in terms of luck go ahead, roll the dice and take a leap of faith into something for your business or lifestyle. Your chances can’t be any worse than any other day and you don’t get ahead in anything just sitting there! But while you’re at it, take a minute to understand what 11-11 of every year stands for as well and thank a veteran.
To all Veterans of the United States – including those reading this – from all of us here at 123Print…Thank You!
