Easy Tips to Organize Your Office Closet

If you’re like me, you still have a few … okay, QUITE a few … spring cleaning projects that you haven’t gotten around to yet. One big one that you’ve yet to conquer is probably your work closet. Whether you work at home or at an office, it seems to become easier and easier for items to get lost in your closet, and soon your closet could actually turn into a black hole. One way that I’ve found most effective to organize a closet is to naturally create an aesthetically pleasing appearance by being consistent and uniform. Check out how you can turn your messy closet into a work of art by simply using containers and labels:

Use containers

  • Don’t buy too many different types of containers — stick with just a few.
  • Make sure all of your containers are all the same color or, more preferably, all clear.
  • If you’d like, you can get baskets instead, but again, make sure they’re all the same style.
  • Look for stackable containers — that way, you can make small containers work in a tall space.
  • Leave a bit of room between containers that are next to each other.
  • Put products of the same “family” in the same containers.
  • Consider creating clusters of smaller items within each container.
  • When selecting binders and file folders, again, be consistent in type in color.
  • Once you find a type of container, basket, binder, etc. that you like, you can simply keep buying that same, reliable product over and over!

Use Labels

  • Use high-quality, custom labels on your containers to make them really pop!
  • Use labels in moderation — not everything will need to be labeled. Only label containers that aren’t obvious what they are.

When it’s time to go to the store, make sure you have a very specific list of what you need. If you’re anything like me, it’s hard to resist buying adorable containers of all shapes and sizes! Plus, having a plan for what you need will help you save money. Also, do NOT forget to measure the space of your office closet! You’ll want to record those measurements, then bring a tape measure with you to the store, just in case the dimensions aren’t labeled on the container(s). You could also take a photo on your phone of the inside of your closet before hand, to give you a good visual.

Are you getting ready to give your office closet a good, nearly-summer cleaning? What other tips do you have? We’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment below, or connect with us on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.
