According to businessknowhow.com, there are four corners (haha, get it?!) of unforgettable business cards. They are, in no particular order:
- Stacking Up
- Standing Out
- Creative Enhancement
- Implementation
Here’s our take on the four corners:
Stacking Up
How did your business cards do at your last event? How did people react to them? These are questions you should be asking yourself to measure how your business cards “stack up” against the competition. Your card needs to make an impression. Having a creative and unique card can help insure that your card evokes some kind of reaction. If you’ve ever gotten a compliment on your business cards then congrats! You’re on the right path to a business card that stacks up.
Standing Out
Want to learn a trick? Take a bunch of business cards that you’ve gathered, spread them all out on the table, look away for 30 minutes, then look back. Which cards stick out to you? Here’s what one experimenter noticed:
- Any card that used the color red on it
- Cards that had personal portraits
- Vertical business cards
- Black backgrounds
- Images that took up more than 25% off the surface
Creative Enhancement
Now that you’ve done a few exercises, put that brain to work to think of some creative new ideas for your new, awesome business card! Here’s a few to get you started:
- Is your company team-oriented? Try printing out business cards with employee pictures and stats to get a “Trading Card” feel!
- Purchase a cartoon to print on your business card
- Put a meaningful chart on the back (interest table perhaps?) this will not only give you business card versatility, it will help enforce your credibility
- Add high-quality photos of your products
- Make a big statement with a mini business card!
- Use a rubber stamp to imprint your contact info on blank card stock – will give your business cards a cool look
- Put a recipe on the back of your card
- Are you an international company? Put a couple different language translations on your card
Implementation
Make sure to tell people you got a new business card. Trust me, they’ll be happy to accept it, even if they already have your old one. Be thoughtful when handing out your cards – don’t just “deal out the deck.” People are more likely to throw business cards away from those who they failed to make a connection with.
Be confident that your business cards ROCK! If you believe it, others will too.
