Reasons to Celebrate in the Office

Sure, birthdays and holiday parties are important. However, there are other occasions that may warrant throwing a little get-together at the office. As a boss, it's important that your employees know you appreciate them, and there's no better way to show this then to celebrate big milestones in their lives and careers. Here are some less obvious, yet still important reasons to throw a party in the office.

An Employee Is Leaving
This might not necessarily sound like a positive event, but the truth is that workers move to other jobs all the time. That doesn't meant they didn't enjoy working at your company, it just means it's time to move on. Before your employee heads out for the last time, have something special to thank him or her for all his or her hard work. In fact, you could even make it a surprise, like Party Current recommends. Your gratitude can be shown in a number of ways. For instance, you can order in some catering for the whole gang for lunch – and don't forget to include a celebratory going away cake. Going out of your way to say goodbye can mean more than you think.

Someone Had a Baby
There's not anything better than a little baby being born. If someone at your office just added a little bundle of joy to his or her family, congratulations are definitely in order. Buy him or her a congratulations card and have everyone in the office sign it. You all can even go in on a gift like an adorable baby outfit or toys. Odds are, the new mom or dad will probably be taking some time off so you'll probably have to mail the present, but it will most definitely mean a lot to the new parent.

Your Employee Got a Promotion
There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving credit where it is due. If someone in your office has recently been bumped up to a new position, make sure you celebrate accordingly. You can bring your worker out to lunch or give him or her a shout out at the next company meeting.

Your Company Won an Award
If your business won some kind of award, don't just let everyone know in an email chain. Be sure to go out of your way to show appreciation for the whole team's dedication. Bring in some beers for after hour drinks. You could even give a toast thanking everyone for their hard work.
