Did you know that September is National Blueberry Popsicle Month, October is National Pizza Month or that November is Peanut Butter Lovers Month? Why not have a customer appreciation sale or event with one of these as the unique theme! Give away blueberry popsicles, slices of pizza or peanut butter cookies to get traffic coming in and sales going out.

And if you didn’t have a Labor Day sale or promotion, put it on your schedule for next year, then try one or all of these unique marketing ideas:

1. Autumn Equinox (always around September 22) — Consider a 50/50 sale on this day when there are equal amounts of daylight and nighttime. That could be 50% off 50 different items that you sell, 50% off the next $XX purchase with a purchase of $50 or more. Or whatever else you can think of that works with 50/50. An affordable, fall-colored postcard and shopping bag stuffer can help get the word out.

2. Columbus Day (2nd Monday in October) — Help your customers “discover” great deals by creating a scavenger hunt for hidden coupons or gift certificates around town. Or conduct a digital scavenger hunt on Twitter and/or Facebook, offering short-term “fire sales” throughout the day that customers need to watch for to take advantage of the deal.

3. Election Day (1st Tuesday in November) — Have your own election. Ask customers to vote — on your Facebook page, your website or in the store — for their favorite product or service that you offer. Then choose a winner by random drawing and give away a fabulous prize that will inspire them to vote. Print custom yard signs and door hangers to distribute around town and send out “campaign fliers” to notify people of the contest. Decorate the store, your Facebook page and your website in red, white and blue!

Whatever you do with your seasonal marketing, don’t forget about the traditional fall promotions for Halloween (October 31), Veterans Day (November 11 each year), Thanksgiving (4th Thursday of November) and Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving).

Not selling to consumers? That’s OK. Your business customers like to eat, too. You can build relationships, foster loyalty and get their attention focused on your business by sending out-of-town clients a pizza gift certificate in October or delivering peanut butter cookies on your November sales calls. Just make sure to design a postcard that goes along with the theme that can be left behind to remind them they have your company to thank for the treat.

OK, if you were counting, that was more than three marketing tips, but we hope you found one or more that you really can use! Let us know by leaving a comment below. And please share your own ideas for other fall promotions.
