5 Creative Ways to Use Address Labels

Let’s face it, as much as some people want to admit it… the classic art form of writing a letter is vanishing. Those days of writing a letter to a loved one or friend are slowly being replaced with text messages, IMS and emails. So what does that mean? It means the common use of putting an address label on an envelope is becoming less and less useful. If you’re anything like my father, you refuse to do any sort of online banking or payments, so you still slip a check into an envelope and slap an addresson to save you a few seconds, and you see a lot of holiday address labels around Christmas but besides that, what do you even use an address label for these days?

Here are some creative ways to keep address labels as one of your “go-to” products:

1.) Use them to label electronics

Put your name, address and phone number on CD or DVD cases when you lend them out to friends – that way your friend knows exactly who it belongs to when it gets shoved on the shelf after being watched. Go crazy and even label your phone!

2.) Label books and school supplies

One of the most stressful situations for a child in school (grade school, high school or college) is when they lose an important notebook or text book, and it’s never returned to them. Imagine losing all of your notes, study guides, highlighted passages and worksheets! Help alleviate the chance of your child never seeing these things again by labeling their school supplies and books with an address label that features their name and a way to contact them if the item has been misplaced.

3.) Label items you sell in your shop or online

Always make sure you label the items you sell with your name, address, business name and a phone number – especially if they are individual items like a single rose or a piece of candy.

4.) Use labels as price tags when having a yard sale

Buy address labels in a bright color so they stand out on your items you’re trying to sell in a yard sale. Then use a permanent marker to write in the price for each individual item!

5.) Label lunches

Brown paper lunches can easily get mixed up. If you have more than one child who takes lunch to school, label with their name so each child gets the correct lunch. Add the child’s teacher’s name as well in case it gets left on the bus!

Remember, just because you don’t send as many letters or paper bills out doesn’t mean address labels are becoming useless or obsolete. What creative ways have you used address labels? Comment or share with us on Facebook or Twitter!

    • Christinia – Thanks for the comment. It's awesome how versatile address labels can be. For me, I never use an entire roll on envelopes alone, so using these ideas has allowed me not to waste them!
