With Halloween just two weeks away and the 3rd Wednesday Wedding blog due, it’s got me thinking about fall weddings in general and Halloween-themed weddings in particular. Those of you planning to go with a Halloween theme this year probably have everything in place, but if you’re considering Friday, October 31st, 2014 as your wedding date, you have time to observe, plan and come up with some great Halloween wedding ideas. As I see it, there are really two ways to go with Halloween wedding planning: kitschy and eerie or sophisticated and elegant.
If kitschy is your cup of tea, check out our Halloween Wedding Pinterest board for adorable-yet-spooky ideas. And keep in mind, while your kitschy wedding may feature a ghouls-and-goblins look and be pretty tongue in cheek, it can still be done well.
But let’s consider the elegant Halloween wedding a minute. This fall, Vera Wang has the bridal world talking about the pink wedding dress trend. Who’s to say you can’t establish Fall 2014’s fashion craze with an orange wedding gown? From brilliant burnt-orange frocks to blushing, hint-of-ginger Haute couture, Halloween brides have a lot of stunning and colorful wedding dress choices. And if you’ve always dreamt of wearing white (or maybe that’s what your mom and/or grandmother expect), a bold orange sash or bouquet of tiger lilies or Pat Austin roses can be your nod to your All Hallow’s Eve theme.
Of course you’ll need the appropriate wedding invitation, RSVP cards, programs, place cards and more. The 123Print “Batty Wedding” design lets you customize everything from the save-the-date magnet mailed months in advance to the thank you cards sent after the nuptials. And while the name sounds kitschy, the look is quite sophisticated. You have to look close before you realize the modern design is actually bats — and maybe a few ravens.
On the 123Print Pinterest board, you’ll see a Tim Burton’s Halloween movie-inspired cake to go with a strict Fright Night theme, but the “Missy” cake at The Pastry Studio is a beautiful chocolate, ivory and deep-orange wedding cake with elegant black harlequin diamonds and scrollwork. Nothing gaudy or ghoulish about it. Again, if you prefer to opt for the traditional white look, you can pull your theme in with black and/or orange details and design work.
As for decorating, you are only limited by your imagination. From caramel apple favors for guests that double as pedestals that feature your place cards to black linens and ornately carved pumpkin centerpieces, this will be a wedding to remember.
