Did you know that more than one in four grooms propose to their brides over the holiday season? That’s right! According to a survey sponsored by the Fairchild Bridal Group, the publisher of “Modern Bride,” November and December account for 26 percent of marriage proposals.

That survey doesn’t even include the ones egged on by too much eggnog who received not-so-enthusiastic responses.

Were you one that added to the statistic? If so, do you know some of the first steps you should be taking to plan your dream wedding?

First off, don’t panic! Your wedding is going to be magical. And with some organization thrown into the mix, your wedding could turn out better than Cinderella’s!

Give yourself 9-16 months to plan your wedding. Up to the nine-month mark you should:

  • Start a wedding folder/binder to help you stay organized.
  • Decide who you want in your wedding party, and extend them an invitation.
  • Determine a budget.
  • Determine how many guests you’d like at your wedding, and start making a list. A digital spreadsheet works best to easily sort through names, addresses, RSVPs, etc.
  • Decide on a date. Book venues for your ceremony and reception.
  • Begin researching photographers, bands, DJs, florists, caterers and bakeries.
  • Book your officiant.
  • Start shopping for Wedding Save the Dates, Wedding Invitations and RSVP Cards.
